FAQ

Q. Can I edit my profile after I’ve registered?

A. Yes you can!  You will need to LOGIN.  After you log in, you will land on your account page.  Click on the "Edit Profile Information" button for the active profile and change your display name, personal note, or profile image.  You can also edit your account email and password on the account page, but not your account username.

Q. What do I wear to the event?

A. A bathing suit, a Zoot Suit, a wet suit, your interview suit, but not your birthday suit!  Wear old clothes or wear a costume – there will be prizes for costumes!  And ALL Dippers must wear shoes; we suggest aqua shoes or old sneakers

Q. How far do I have to go into the water?

A. All the way, but not over your head.  For your safety, there will be certified divers in wetsuits in the water, and you won’t be allowed to go past where they are.

Q. What should I bring to the event?

A. A towel to dry off and warm up with. It’s a good idea to bring a bag with dry shoes as well as a plastic bag for your wet clothes after you’ve dipped.

Q. Is there somewhere I can change before and after the event?

A. Yes! We will have heated, indoor changing areas, although the water in the building will be off for the winter.  Please note that Ithaca Community Recovery and Ithaca Yacht Club are not responsible for personal belongings that are lost or stolen during the course of the event. Leave items at your own risk.

Q. Are there any safety precautions taken?

A. Yes, we are taking numerous precautions to ensure the safety of all participants and spectators.  Divers will be positioned in the water, ready to assist anyone in need.  In addition, Bangs has generously agreed to provide an ambulance.

Q. What is the average temperature of Cayuga lake on January 1st?

A. Cold :)  The water temperature in January is often close to 32 degrees.

Q.  Can a donor mail in a donation?

A. Yes, checks can be mailed directly to Ithaca Community Recovery at 518 W. Seneca St., Ithaca, NY 14850. The mail in donation form can be printed from this website, or donors can write a note with their check to credit your campaign and vote for you to dip or dodge.

Q. How old do I need to be to participate?

A. At least 18 years old.

Q. Is my donation considered a tax deductible charitable contribution?

A. Absolutely!

Q. What happens if there is bad weather?
